Rating: 8.2 out of 10

Verdict: GetUpside is a legitimate cashback app that gives you the opportunity to save money by rewarding you with points from buying stuff that you’re already buying on the regular. Think of it like a tax rebate but for your purchases.

Businesses are always looking for ways to improve their bottom line by attracting more customers to their products. Growth is always seen as a positive thing in many industries which is the main reason why all businesses are striving for it. I can almost guarantee that you’ve already been a subjected to product promotion.

If you’ve claimed a coupon, used a loyalty card, or redeemed a gift card, you’ve been subjected to promotion. Promotion comes in so many ways that you won’t even think consider them as such because of how engrained they are with every business.

The company we’re going to review today deals with promotional marketing. It’s what many people would refer to as cash back promotion. The pitch goes, you buy something then you get something back. It’s like a discount but with a few more steps. The name of the company is GetUpside.

What Is GetUpside?

GetUpside is an app that is designed to offer its users cashback whenever you fill up at certain gas stations, buy groceries at eligible stores, or dine at partner restaurants.

The app shows you which places offer cash backs. The cash backs will be sent to your GetUpdate account then you are able to withdraw it via Paypal or check, depending on your preference.

The app is only available in certain cities in the US. If you are outside of the US, then you’re out of luck because they don’t have an international app version just yet.

Can You Really Get Cash Back From This App?

From my research, it seems like it does get you cashback. That is, of course, if you plan on actually purchasing items from their partner stores. If you need to go out of your way to buy from their partner stores, I must say that it’s not going to be worth it. Just do it when it’s convenient.

I’ve even read reports saying that it’s possible to earn $50 from using this app. I am not doubting that this amount is possible indeed. However, you need to spend a considerable amount of money just to get that amount back. If you consider what it actually costs you, is it really worth it? We’ll get to that later.

How To Earn Cash Back From GetUpside?

At the time of this writing, the app can only be used in these cities:

  • Baltimore
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Long Island
  • Maryland
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Washington DC

They are planning to branch out to other cities but that’s currently on hold because of the recent pandemic.

The first way to earn a cashback is to fuel up at their partner gas stations. Expect around $0.25 cashback per gallon of gas. It’s not much but it’s still a major discount if you think about it. It also depends on the offer that the gas station has agreed with GetUpside.

Some supermarkets give back up to 15% which is a considerable amount. Another cashback option is by dining in at their partner restaurant and be given up to 35% cashback. These percentages are not guaranteed, just so we are clear. These are just the maximum cashback offers that stores can offer.

Quirks Of GetUpside

One of the first things that you may notice about the app is cash payment is discouraged. In fact, cash transactions aren’t even counted by the app. You need to use a credit or debit card for the cashback to work. It’s a weird decision and one of the few things I find suspect about this program. I’ll write more about that later.

Their offers have time limits as well. You only have 4 hours before their cashback offers expire. You need to go purchase the item that is indicated in the offer almost right after you book the offer. You are also limited to 50 gallons of gas and two grocery cashback per week.

Another thing that you will notice is the lack of partner stores. They only have a very limited amount of partner stores in very few cities, no less. If you find yourself outside of major cities, you will have no luck in finding stores to load up on your GetUpside points.

How To Become A Member?

To become a member of GetUpside, you just need to download the app via iOS or Android.

Once you completed a purchase from their partner stores, all you need to do is upload the receipt to the app. GetUpside will verify it via the barcode in the receipt. You should be able to see the cashback as soon as it’s verified.

The only real requirement for GetUpside is you need to live inside the US. Take note that not all major cities in the US have partnered stores.

You can choose either cash or gift check. If you opt for cash, you can have them deliver a check or do it online via Paypal. They have a payout threshold of $15 for Paypal and $50 if you opt for a check.

Other Ways To Earn Money From GetUpside?

In cashback programs like this one, they usually have a referral program to ensure their continuous growth. To encourage their members to refer other people to the program, they give out rewards for every successful recruit.

You will get an additional $0.20 bonus when you successfully refer someone to use the program. They have to spend at least $10 on a gas purchase before you get rewarded the amount though. Additionally, you are entitled to a small cashback whenever they use their GetUpside app. The more you recruit, the more bonus you will earn. It’s that simple.

What I Like About GetUpside App

  • In select cities, you will find many stores that have partnered up with GetUpside. This makes it really easy to get cashback.
  • Another thing I like is the referral program. The people you recruit will actually gain something from the app which makes recruitment relatively easier.
  • The percentage of their discounts is considerably higher than their competition. Some restaurants even offer up to 35% cashback.

What I Don’t Like About GetUpside

  • GetUpside is weird that it doesn’t recognize cash payments as actual payments. It only accepts debit or credit card receipts.
  • It is not available for non-US residents. It’s not even available all over the USA.

The Verdict – Is GetUpside Scam?

No, GetUpside is not a scam. To tell you the truth, it’s one of the better cashback programs out there, that is if it’s available in your area.

My only real issue with it is it doesn’t recognize cash as a payment method. If you don’t own a credit or debit card, you don’t get to use the app. There are still many people who prefer using cash for their transactions. I honestly think that GetUpside is missing out on these demographics.

The app is free to download on both iOS and Android devices. You can even download it now and take it for a spin to see if your city has any cashback offers.

Strictly speaking, cashback programs aren’t “online money-making opportunities” but they’re pretty close. At the end of the day, earning money, even from small things like cashback is always welcomed. Now, if you want more than just saving money from cashbacks, I recommend you check out how I make money online.

Thank you and see you on the other side.
