Drop App Review: Yet Another Gift-Based App
In today’s review, we are going to take a look into this new app named Drop App which claims to reward its users with points simply by buying stuff online. Does that sound possible? Read down below if you want to learn more.
In this article, I will help you determine if this Drop App is the real deal or not.
What Is Drop App?
Drop is an app that allows you to earn gift cards when you buy something. It basically gifts you something when you buy an item that is included in their portfolio. If you think about it, you are almost buying the item on a discount because you will get something extra when you do.
The founder and CEO, Derrick Fung, created the app to entice the younger generations to spend more. He observed that the younger generations like to brand-hop – meaning that brand loyalty isn’t big on them as long as they are saving some money. This led to his breakthrough in the creation of Drop wherein he pits different merchants together in order to get the best pricing available.
How Does Drop App Work?
If you remember the early 2000s, you probably have a loyalty card of some random store in your wallet. That’s just the way things work back in the day. Stores would give their customers loyalty cards to incentivize them to become loyal customers. This method still works. Companies are still using this method to make loyal customers out of their userbase. That speaks to the effectiveness of this method.
However, now that everything is done electronically, the need for loyalty cards has almost vanished. Everything is done digitally. No more loyalty cards stuffed into your wallet. There’s no need for that anymore.
Having said that, Drop App doesn’t remove your ability to be loyal to the companies you want. It just gives you more options. The creator of the Drop App observed that the younger demographic will spend more if they think they are getting more out of their money. This means that if a company offers a discount in any form, people would take notice.
Who Is Drop App For?
The fact is, there is strong evidence that the younger generation wants to earn rewards. I mean, who wouldn’t? Everyone I know would welcome any type of reward as long as it is free. Actually, even rewards that aren’t necessarily free would still be in-demand. That’s just the nature of rewards. If you label something as a reward, people would want it.
I’m not saying that only the younger generation can make use of this program. It’s the opposite, really. Anyone can enjoy this program. There is no qualification so that means literally anyone can go and use it.
How To Start Using The App?
Using the app is pretty straightforward. The first thing you need to do is download the Drop app. You can download it on both App Store and Google Play. You can also go to their website and enter your phone number. They will then send you a downlink to your phone.
Once you have downloaded the app, you will then need to create a profile by entering information about yourself. You will be asked to provide a credit or debit card number. Drop works by looking into all of your purchases using your card. It then lines it up with gifts that are exclusively offered on the Drop app. You basically don’t need to change anything. You will earn rewards on your card in the background, which is a good thing.
You have the choice to select your favorite bands to further customize your offers. The big-name brands like Walmart, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, Target, and many more are available on the platform. Once you select your preference, you are now ready to start the program. Just use your card as you normally should. You will accumulate points in the background, which is the best kind of passive income if you think about it.
A Few Quirks Of Drop App
- Different points depending on the brand
You will earn a different number of points depending on the brand. For instance, if you spend $1 on Walmart, you will earn 2 points. $1 on Starbucks though would get you 12 points. It is different depending on the brand you choose.
- It would take a couple of days for the points to reflect
When I first used this app, I thought that the points would instantly reflect on my app as soon as the transaction got through. That isn’t the case though. Sometimes, you will need to wait overnight for all the transactions to go through the app. However, there are some reports that it can even take a week sometimes.
For bigger purchases, Drop App will hold the points much longer than usual
When I first experienced this, it thought of it as weird. However, the longer I thought about this hidden policy of theirs, the more I understand it. It seems like Drop App is delaying the acknowledgment of the points for several weeks because they don’t want their users to return the item. If the Drop app sends in the points instantly but the user decided to return the item, Drop App will end up sending points for nothing. They want to avoid this scenario hence the delay.
Conclusion – Is Drop App Worth Your Time?
Yes. Drop App is one of those programs that is very easy to use. You don’t even have to understand the mechanics of how it functions before you can use it. Just install it and go with your usual day and collect your points once you have enough.
The only thing that I don’t like is the seeming lack of uniformity in terms of the time frame of when the points would be transferred. Also, I was a bit reluctant in sharing my card information with a third-party app because of security. But I’ve already filled out many forms using my card information and never has it been hacked, so I gave in.
Overall, Drop app is a good app if you are looking to earn pocket money for your purchases. You are spending money anyway, so why not recuperate some of it in points?
